Jamu Treatment · For Mothers

Your Fourth Trimester, Held With Care

A living tradition of postpartum care, part of Indonesian, Singaporean and Malay cultures for centuries: Jamu physiological binding, wrapping and massage, brought gently into your own home, held for you as you heal.

What Is Jamu?

A tradition of healing older than any of us.

A living tradition of postpartum care, part of Indonesian, Singaporean and Malay cultures for centuries. Jamu physiological binding, wrapping and massage target post-birth recovery: moving stagnant blood, enhancing circulation, and working traditional herbs and plants into the abdomen beneath gentle bandages and wraps. It's not only physical. It tends to your emotional and mental wellbeing too, and keeps your body warm while it heals.

In these cultures, mothers rest through a "confinement period": family steps in for the household, the cooking, the lactation support, and visitors are kept away for the first month so healing comes first. It's one reason these cultures report such low rates of postnatal depression. This is the same care, brought to you.

In Their Own Words

Mothers Who've Been Held Through Their Fourth Trimester

"Six months later, I still think about Jackie and the care she gave me almost every day. She came into my life when my world had completely flipped: becoming a mum, being hospitalised for a serious illness postpartum, and unable to care for my newborn. I was overwhelmed, vulnerable, and lost. Jackie wasn't just my postpartum practitioner, she became the mother I needed during one of the hardest seasons of my life.

The treatments themselves were incredible, it truly felt like my body could finally complete its healing after a lot of trauma. The Jamu massage became the only time I could genuinely rest, and the physiological binding made such a difference that my diastasis recti is now very minimal.

It wasn't just a service, it was one of the greatest gifts I could have given myself during postpartum. If you're considering booking with Jackie, don't hesitate. You won't find this level of care anywhere else."

Before You Book

Everything You Need to Know

When can you start treating me?

As soon as you get home from hospital after birth, unless medical approval is required. With a caesarian birth we have to wait 2-4 weeks post birth before care can start

Is it too late for treatment?

It's best to start as early as you can, to begin the healing and strengthening process. But it's never too late: if you're already a few months down the track and you've only found me now, that is no problem.

Where will you treat me?

Your bedroom or baby's room would be best. It's a sanctuary, where you will connect with your baby, where it's easy to rest and feed.

What should I wear for the nurturing experience?

It works well to wear a dressing gown with loose fitting underwear underneath. Your modesty will be respected at all times.

What should I have ready for you?

I'll need three to four large bath towels, your favourite sleeping pillow, and easy access to a bathroom with warm water. I'll also access your kitchen to mix your Jamu abdominal herbs and prepare your postpartum tea.

Do I need someone else to look after my baby while you are here?

No, it's time together and I'll help you. I continue working on your side while you feed, and I'll help settle your little one afterward.

What about toddlers in the house?

That's OK too. We might have some interruptions, but we'll work through this together.

How long do I need to wear everything?

As close to 24hrs as possible, and I'll talk you through this. Two hours before I arrive for your next session, you remove everything, have a shower, and allow your skin to breathe before the care is repeated again.

Will you treat me on my bed?

No; I bring my own relaxing futon floor mattress for you. It's big enough for you, me and baby.

Will I be able to do things with the bandages and wraps on?

You can rest, feed and move around the house as normal, but it's highly advisable to stay home while you're in Jamu postpartum care, and not go out, walk or drive. This is your time to heal, and your body does that best when it isn't asked to do anything else.

What if my baby is late, or things out of my control change?

Then you just keep me posted and I'll work around you and your baby.

What do I wear afterwards?

Something loose fitting and comfortable is ideal.

Will this help me go back to work sooner?

Treatment helps your body heal and strengthen faster, which for many mothers means an easier, and sometimes earlier, return to work. Of course, every recovery is individual.
